Peace-related theme in general courses:
Undergraduate themes: Convention on Rights of the Child (in Child Protection module); Conflict Resolution (in Business Management module).



Specific peace-related modules, courses, training:
1-2-week modules on Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding for undergraduate students in Youth Leadership Programme, Ecumenical Leadership Programme, Women’s Leadership Programme, Early Childhood Development and Education Trainers Course, Appropriate Technology Course. Training materials, and copies of articles appropriate to topic and group, e.g. Convention on Rights of the Child, Convention of Rights of Women. The majority of participants are lay leaders and some clergy from various Christian denominations, while a few are from other faiths. Approximately ½ males and ½ females. For Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution a 9-month Diploma or a 3-month Certificate is awarded.



Community Service:
Seminars (1-10 days), either pre-planned or planned with requesting group (certificate of attendance). Regular training programmes: Messengers of Peace (2 weeks, certificate of attendance), Dag Hammarskjöld Memorial seminar (2-3 days). Occasional consultation/mediation. Benefiting groups: Churches, NGOs, Senior Police Officers. Ex-students in Church conflict resolution training, NGO working with urban slum dwellers, community theatre group, human rights commission, electoral commission, church sponsored community training, women’s empowerment network, political party youth training.



Additional Information:
Largest centre for lay-training in Africa. Rapid growth of programme since beginning in 1999. Ex-students doing innovative and promising work in conflicts in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Zimbabwe. Funding by church-related European donors.
