The Africa Programme team congratulates all the students of class 2003 for their excellent achievement and wishes them every success in their future endeavours. Students from fifteen countries received their Master's degree during the ceremony on Monday, 23 June, 2003 at the University's campus and headquarter in San Jose, Costa Rica. Three students from Malawi, Nigeria, and Rwanda were among the graduates. Rector Martin Lees presented the Rector's Award of Excellence to Martin Zibau Nkuna, from Malawi, who received the Master of Arts in Human Rights Studies. NORAD's contribution to the organization of three Curriculum Development Workshops in Africa The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) has confirmed their support to the Africa Programme and contributed to the organization of three Curriculum Development Workshops which will be held in the following regions over the coming months:
UPEACE's Institute for Media, Peace and Security (IMPS), is commissioning the Colombia-based Medios para la Paz, a leading Latin American media training organization, to develop a Spanish-language course called the Media in Conflict Prevention and Peace-building. This course will be offered in early 2004 in two versions: a)

UPEACE's
Institute for Media,
Peace and Security (IMPS), in partnership with La Maison Française
d'Oxford, will hold a day-and-a-half conference at Oxford University
from Oct. 31 - Nov. 1, 2003 on the topic of ''International Media
Coverage of the 2003 Iraq War.'' With financial support from the French
Government and a UK foundation to be announced, the meeting will bring
together leading journalists and media experts from Britain, France
and the United States. Admission is free and open to the general public.

The Journal of Peacebuilding and Development (JPD), a formal partner of the UPEACE Africa Programme, is a new tri-annual refereed journal providing a forum for the sharing of critical thinking and constructive action on issues at the intersections of conflict, development, and peace. JDP is calling for papers for its next issue which will endeavour to capture and examine critical peacebuilding and development topics and questions that challenge our era in the African context, such as: Development policies, processes and outcomes: implications for conflict and peace; Social and economic policy: conflicts and possible resolutions; Identities and relationships in conflict and development; People-centred development in divided societies, and many others. Articles
submitted to the Journal should be original contributions. Abstract
