Africa Programme seeks three External Evaluators to be based in Africa.

The University for Peace's Africa Programme is seeking three individuals to work as external evaluators of its current 5-year project on peacebuilding in Africa. News Release: International Workshop on Environmental Degradation and Conflict in Darfur Supported by the University for Peace. 14 - 16 December 2004 - Khartoum. The UN-affiliated University for Peace (UPEACE), in collaboration with the Peace Research Institute of the University of Khartoum, are jointly organising a conference on Environmental Degradation and Conflict in Darfur at the University of Khartoum, Al-Sharja Hall, on 15 and 16 December 2004. 'News For Peace' Publication Launched in Rwanda. 22 November 2004 - Butare, Rwanda. The Africa Programme of the University for Peace is pleased to announce the launch of the News For Peace publication in Butare, Rwanda. Distance Learning Course on the Role of the Media in the Rwanda Genocide. 08 November 2004 . In this distance learning course you will study the different facets of the media role in the genocide in detail. You will see how easily the concept of free speech and free press in a local situation can be perverted for foul ends. We will ask how this dilemma could be resolved. We will explore the problem of inadequate or even distorted international coverage of crises and conflicts in areas poorly understood by Western journalists. We will consider whether this unfortunate situation can be improved in the future.
Faculty and Staff Development Seminar on Gender and Peacebuilding. 26 - 30 July 2004 - Kitwe, Zambia. The Faculty and Staff Development Seminar on Gender and Peacebuilding, held in Kitwe, Zambia from the 26th to 30th of July 2004, was jointly organized by the UPEACE Africa Programme and the Department of Gender and Peace Studies, in collaboration with the Dag Hammarskjöld Centre for Peace, Good Governance, and Human Rights of the Mindolo Ecumenical Foundation (MEF). UPEACE/Africa programme hosts two meetings in Butare, Rwanda to discuss new initiatives in the Great Lakes Region. 28 June - 01 July 2004 - Butare, Rwanda. "News for Peace" initiative in Rwanda (28 - 29 June 2004. The aim of the meeting was to discuss the development of a new project initiative entitled "News for Peace" , and to agree on its strategy and implementation plan. Regional Media for Peace Programme in the Great Lakes Region (30 June - 1 July 2004). During the second meeting participants discussed the setting up, on a short, medium and long-term period, of a regional "Media for Peace" programme in the Great Lakes Region. UPEACE's Newest Academic Appointment. 15 June 2004 . The University for Peace today welcomes the arrival of Dr. Edith Natukunda-Togboa amongst the faculty of the University, as she takes up her role as Dean of African Studies and Director of the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies. Rwanda Genocide Commemoration: Public Dialogue . 23 April 2004 - Geneva, Switzerland. Community projects undertaken by UPEACE and the Permanent Mission of Rwanda in Geneva to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the Genocide in Rwanda 1994-2004. Located in her small cozy cabin only five minutes away from the UPEACE campus, Makeda Tsegaye, a student from Ethiopia enrolled in the University for Peace Masters programme in International Peace Studies, referred to the enriching experience she has gained during the past eight months. Community projects undertaken by UPEACE and the Permanent Mission of Rwanda in Geneva to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the Genocide in Rwanda 1994-2004 Planning Mission to Zambia in preparation of a Faculty and Staff Development Seminar on Gender and Peace Building. 17 - 18 March 2004 - Kitwe, Zambia. A UPEACE Africa Programme delegation undertook a planning mission to Zambia on 16 March 2004 and held a two day coordination meeting in preparation of a forthcoming Faculty and Staff Development Seminar on Gender and Peacebuilding . The delegation met with representatives of the Mindolo Ecumenical Foundation (MEF) and the Dag Hammarskjöld Peace Centre for Peace, Good Governance and Human Rights in Kitwe, Zambia , partners of the Africa Programme . Curriculum Development Workshop on Peace and Conflict Resolution for the Western African Region. 08 - 12 March 2004 - Abuja, Nigeria. The third UPEACE Curriculum Development Workshop for the Western African region was held in Abuja, Nigeria from the 8th to 12th of March, 2004, co-hosted with and coordinated by the National Universities Commission of Nigeria (NUC) and the University of Jos, Nigeria. Africa Programme seeks Director to be based in its Addis Ababa Office. 01 March - 30 April 2004 . The United Nations affiliated University for Peace welcomes applications for the position of Director of its Africa Programme. The director will be based in the Addis Ababa office of UPEACE (once launched in 2004), and will be part of a unique university that functions as a global knowledge network, created by a General Assembly resolution of the United Nations two decades ago.
